Spotlight on: Chocolate
At Kuhn’s Market we are proud to be a Pittsburgh tradition. For over 50 years we have worked to provide you with quality products at affordable prices. One of the ways we have been able to accomplish this is by having many local and regional partners. Partnering with these companies allows us to ensure that the standards our customers have come to expect are met and maintained. You can find many of Pittsburgh’s and Western PA’s favorite items in almost every department throughout the store.A little sweet
Is there anything better than finding your Easter basket filled with tasty chocolate from some of our region's favorite chocolatiers? We don’t think so, and are proud to offer our customers a variety of options from Sarris Candies, Rosalind Candy Castle, Anderson’s Candies, and Betsy Ann American Chocolates.
Rosalind Candy Castle
For over 100 years Butler County has been the home to Rosalind Candy Castle. Gust Zachos immigrated to the US from Greece in 1912 and opened a soda fountain store and restaurant. During the slow periods at the restaurant, he would work on making chocolates. As his chocolates started to become more and more popular, Zachos decided to hold a naming contest. Combined from two entries, Rosalind Candy Store and The Candy Castle, Rosalind Candy Castle was born. Still a family owned business, Rosalind Castle is operated by the Crudden and Zaluska families who purchased the business after Zachos’ death. We are happy to be able to offer you their chocolate covered Oreos, individual chocolate bars, as well as many other tasty treats. Be sure to add some Rosalind Candy Castle chocolates to your cart the next time you are in our store.
Anderson’s Candies
Now in its fourth generation, Anderson’s Candies has been family-owned and operated since 1916. That year Harry and Mary Anderson opened their first store in Ambridge where they served their chocolates along with ice cream and fountain drinks. The Baden facility opened in 1964 and is where all the candy making magic takes place. At our Hopewell store, you can find their cappuccino beans, pecan turtle treats, and different varieties of their chocolate bars. Don’t forget to get some Anderson’s Candies the next time you visit our store. They make a great addition to any Easter basket.
Betsy Ann American Chocolates
In 1938 Betsy Ann Helsel began selling candy out of her home. The North Side was home to her first candy shop in 1949 and seven years after that Betsy Ann American Chocolates was featured at Horne’s department stores. For over two decades the chocolate company was one of the nation’s largest department store candy sellers. The Paras family purchased the company in 1968 and continues to operate the business today. You can pick up Betsy Ann American Chocolates famous truffles, milk chocolate cordial cherries, and other goodies at your neighborhood Kuhn’s Market.
Sarris Candies
With $100 and lots of hard work, Frank Sarris started his candy company in the basement of his house in Canonsburg in 1960. With support from his wife, Athena, they were able to turn that investment into the Sarris Chocolate Factory and Ice Cream Parlor we all know and love. Today the company is still owned and operated by members of the Sarris family and they continue to build toward the future. From their chocolate covered pretzels or meltaway eggs to their boxed chocolates that are perfect for any occasion, be sure to stop by and pick up some of your favorite Sarris Candies today.
Kuhn’s Market is honored to partner with family-owned companies who also share a rich Pittsburgh history. We are continually striving to meet the needs of our customers and are glad we can provide you with some hometown favorites.
