Get More for Your Money
Typically, the more you buy, the more you save, so buying more when items are on sale is a great money saver! If the meat you generally buy is on sale, buy more than you need and split it into meal-sized portions to freeze. This tip is one of the most overlooked when purchasing meat. Most think they save more by buying only the amount they need, but grabbing the larger container and freezing it in portions saves you money in the long run. This tip also saves time as you won't have to shop as often.

Buy local
We love supporting our community, so Kuhn's works closely with local meat suppliers to bring you the highest quality meats at the lowest possible price. Buying locally not only saves you money, but it promotes our neighbors and community.

Cut Your Own Meat
This tip isn't for everyone but can save you big on prime meat cuts. Buying whole and cutting your own portions can save you per pound. Unsure of proper cutting techniques? There are plenty of online resources to help even the most novice chef.

Budget-Friendly Beef Cuts
  • Chuck Eye Steakchuck
  • This cut comes from the 5th rib of a cow, between the chuck and ribeye. Chuck eye steaks are rich in flavor and balanced similarly to the ribeye but cost less.
  • Shoulder Steak or Ranch Steak
  • This cut is affordable, convenient, and versatile. It's also lean!
  • Skirt Steak
  • This cut, also known as fajita meat, is boneless and flavorful. Carve diagonally across the grain into thin slices when you're ready to serve. To promote tenderness, use a tenderizer to break up the connective tissue before cooking.
  • Flat Iron
  • Flat Iron is the second most tender cut, and it's very budget-friendly! This cut comes from the Top Blade and is well-marbled, flavorful, and great for grilling. Expert tip: the presence of marbling makes the meat more tender, juicy, and flavourful.
  • Ground Beef
  • You can never go wrong with burgers on the grill. Ground beef, specifically ground chuck, makes excellent patties. When this is on sale, buy in bulk! It's easy to form your burger patties, separate the patties with wax paper, and freeze until your next cookout.
