For this gift, add 3 T chicken bouillon granules, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1/2 tsp dried thyme, 1/2 tsp celery salt, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 3 T onion flakes, and 3 to 4 cups tri-colored rotini pasta to a jar and top it with a ribbon. All the recipient has to do is add the mix to a pot filled with 10 cups of water and two stalks of diced celery and carrots. Once the water has come to a boil, simmer for 15-20 minutes. You can add a can of chunked chicken to the gift for a more complete meal. Remember to include the instructions for a quick, yummy lunch or dinner.
Pie Filling
Tis the season for pies! If baking is your specialty, can homemade pie filling in a jar as a gift. Apple, blueberry, or cherry make for great holiday pies. All the recipient will have to do is add the filling to a pie crust and bake, taking a bit of their holiday load off their shoulders. Peel, core, and slice the apples into ½ inch slices for apple pie filling. Mix 1 cup cornstarch, 4 ½ sugar, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, and 1 ½ teaspoon salt in a large pot. Add 10 cups of water and cook on high, stirring often, until bubbly and thickened. Remove from heat, add 3 tablespoons lemon juice and apples, and mix well. Add mixture to each jar, leaving about a 1-inch space at the top—close jars with lids and bands. After cooling, be sure each lid is sealed by pressing down in the center.
Hot Chocolate
