Halloween Party Planning
When you think of celebrating Halloween, the first things that come to mind are trick-or-treating and costumes, but there's so much more to Halloween. So, let's plan a Halloween party.First up, food.
Kuhn's makes celebrating easy with catering options like sandwich rings, sliders, meat and cheese platters, and more! For the adult crowd, Kuhn's also offers a wide variety of beer and wine.
Stop into your local Kuhn's for fresh fruit and veggies for healthier options. Peel mandarin oranges and add celery stems to make healthy pumpkins. Cut out faces in peppers for jack-o-lanterns and add a side of ranch for dipping. Add chocolate eyes and mouths to bananas to fruit and freeze for "ghosts."
You can also extend the invitation for a potluck to see what spooky ideas your friends and family come up with. Vote on who has the spookiest food.
Now, on to the drinks.
No party would be complete without some spooky punch. We love mixing lemon-lime soda with fruit juice for the kiddos. Add a splash of Alcohol to instantly turn into a delightful adult beverage. Halloween it up by serving in a cauldron or adding skeleton parts to the display for a real creepy factor.
Next up, entertainment.
Of course, music is essential at a Halloween party. Find a Halloween-themed playlist on Spotify or Pandora with songs like Monster Mash, Werewolves of London, and Thriller to set the mood. You could even have Halloween movies playing in the background, and if the kids want a break from all the activities, they can enjoy watching while nibbling on all the spooky treats.
Tasty activities and more.
Pumpkin carving is a Halloween favorite, but if time doesn't permit, have the kids use paint markers or stickers for a pumpkin decorating contest. Kuhn's has pumpkins available for purchase during this time of year.
Cookie decorating is fun for all ages. Get some Halloween-themed sprinkles and icing and trim away! Vote on whose cookie is decorated the best or whose is most delicious.
Split your party goers into teams and see who can create a mummy the fastest by wrapping a teammate in toilet paper. Or, get out some flannel shirts, hats, and accessories to see who can dress a scarecrow the fastest. Make it even more enjoyable by blindfolding the decorators.
Create a Halloween photo booth for your guests to snap pictures. If you have a polaroid camera, have a photo book for guests to put their pictures in to remember the night. Supply guests with Halloween costumes and accessories to dress up in.
Hayrides are a classic fall favorite. Have a bonfire ready for after the ride so guests can cozy up with some s'mores and hot cocoa. Add a spook factor by telling scary stories along the ride and at the bonfire.
Last but not least, games.
We all love games, but this one is fantastic; Mystery Bowls; it is hilarious and a little gross all at the same time and great for all ages. Fill separate bowls with pudding, cold pasta, peeled grapes, or anything slimy, gooey, or gross, and cover each bowl with dark fabric. Have partygoers take turns closing their eyes and sticking their hands into the bowls to feel the different "body parts" in each and try to guess what's in the bowl. Tip: Take pictures of participants' expressions as their hands enter the bowls. You can send them as party favors after the night of fun!
You could also make your party a night to remember with a murder mystery. You can find all types of "plots" online, or you could create your own plot by using the game Clue as a template. Ask your guests to dress as specific characters and act out skits to follow the clues to solving the mystery. Gather props for the "murder weapons." The objects can be silly, like slippers, toilet plungers, water guns, and flowers. The more unique and unexpected, the funnier they will be!
Everyone is used to simply grabbing candy out of a bowl while trick-or-treating, so let's make it more fun. Put candy in balloons and blow them up. Attach them to a board and have kids throw darts at the balloons to pop for the candy. Don't forget the treat bags for your guests to take home at the night's end.
