Getting your Grill Ready for the Season

Warm weather means that grilling season is here! Whether you grill with gas or charcoal, we've got the scoop on how to get your grill summertime ready. Let's get those backyard get-togethers going!

Before firing up those grills, you should start with a simple inspection. Check for rust and cracks, especially if your grill is stored outdoors. Next, check for bugs that may have found a way in during winter.

Clean your grill from the inside out. Use a wire brush to remove any build-up from the flame tamers. Remove the flame tamers and check for clogging in the burners. If burner tubes are removable, spray them out with a hose. If not, use a wire brush to clean the portholes.

Next, check your grease pan. Ensure it is clean and emptied after every few uses to prevent grease fires. When using a charcoal grill, be sure to empty the ashes and charcoal to ensure an easy grilling.

The grates can build up residue from the year before and may get rusty during the off-season. Turn all burners on high for ten to fifteen minutes to clean them. Doing so causes the residue to turn to ash. Turn the burners off and let them cool enough before scrubbing—scrub with a grill brush for easy ash removal.

Lastly, wipe down the exterior of the grill. Soapy, warm water is an easy and safe cleaning method for most grills.

Now is the perfect time to replace your grill tools and utensils and add some new ones! Some must-have tools include a basting brush, tongs, meat thermometer, grill brushes, and more. It's also a great time to stock up on charcoal or purchase a new grill cover.
